Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival 2025
12 - 14 SEPTEMBER 2025
A Weekend of Tradition, Fun & Flavour
Join us in Whitstable this September for three incredible days celebrating the mighty oyster and everything that makes this coastal town so unique. From the historic Landing of the Oysters Ceremony to mud-slinging competitions, live music, and family fun — the Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival is back, bigger and better than ever!
CELEBRATING A LEGACY: WHITSTABLE'S OYSTER HERITAGE
Whitstable’s love affair with oysters goes way back — all the way to the Roman Empire, when Julius Caesar’s soldiers developed a taste for Kent’s finest molluscs. Later, Norman fishermen honoured St. James of Compostela, the unofficial patron saint of oysters, with feasting and games.
Revived in the 1980s and then reimagined in 2022, today’s festival carries on these traditions with music, merriment, and of course, oysters. Join us as we celebrate centuries of history in the town that put oysters on the map.

FESTIVAL VENUES ACROSS WHITSTABLE
The festival takes place throughout the town, with something happening around every corner. Here are the key spots to explore:
the grading shed - east quay
A living part of Whitstable’s oyster industry, The Grading Shed is a vibrant cultural hub during the festival. Think live music, food, drink, and unbeatable atmosphere — all set against a backdrop of original maritime machinery and working equipment.
east quay venue
A relaxed café and bar by day, East Quay transforms into our headline stage by night. Don’t miss DJ Huey Morgan on Saturday — tickets required, and it will sell out!
LONG BEACH
The family heart of the festival! Expect Welly Throwing, Pirate Pottery, Kite Flying, Chalk Art, and Treasure Hunts — all for free! As night falls, gather for grotter building, fireworks, and more magical seaside moments.
THE LOBSTER SHACK
At the very end of East Quay, this iconic venue serves up oysters, champagne, and live music with a view. Stay for the sunsets — they’re legendary.
THE OYSTER SHED - SOUTH QUAY
The newest addition to the festival map! With panoramic harbour views, live music, cold beers, and the freshest seafood from WOFC, The Oyster Shed is a must-visit.

FESTIVAL FRINGE VENUES
Our Festival Fringe celebrates local partners hosting events across town. These beloved venues keep the festival spirit alive from day to night:
THE OLD NEPTUNE (The Neppy)
Right on the beach — literally! With live music, a huge beer selection, and the best spot for sunsets, The Neppy is a Whitstable institution and proud Festival Partner.

THE COACH & HORSES (The CoHo)
Historic charm meets party vibes! Expect live bands, DJs, and bonkers bar staff all weekend long. A Fringe favourite and Festival Partner.
